RINCÓN DE LA VICTORIA – The ‘boquerón‘ or anchovy is the gastronomic protagonist of Rincón de la Victoria in September. More than sixty restaurants in this coastal town in southern Spain are participating in this year’s Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano.
In Rincón this September, a thousand kilos of free anchovies is distributed to interested parties. The municipality buys the fish from local fishermen. In the centre, Sabor a Málaga organises a gastro market with sixteen stands of producers from all over the province. There are also various gastronomic activities.
Promoting anchovies
Francisco Salado of the provincial government emphasises the events, which will take place between 7 and 12 September, help to promote the consumption of anchovies and the culinary possibilities of this fish, so typical of this coast.
The program is varied with free tastings and live culinary demonstrations of how to prepare the fish. There is also the gastromarket of Sabor a Málaga, plus music and activities for the whole family.
The participating restaurants offer different dishes to highlight the gastronomic possibilities of the anchovies. Also, a cookbook will be available from January next year at Fitur, highlighting the dishes offered during the event.
The President of the Provincial Council of Malaga and the Mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado, presented on Friday the activities of the XVIII Fiesta del Boquerón Victoriano. Also present were the First Vice President of the Provincial Institution and the Head of Sabor a Málaga, Juan Carlos Maldonado, and the Councillor for Tourism of Rincón de la Victoria, Antonio José Martín.
Salado pointed out the festival, declared a Festival of Provincial Tourist Interest, will return to its original date this year. Celebrations will take place with those for the feria de Virgen de la Victoria.
Sabor a Malaga Market
In addition, on the weekend of September 10 to 12, the Mercado Sabor a Málaga will be in Plaza Al-Ándalus in Rincón de la Victoria, between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. Sixteen exhibitors from the province will showcase their wares. There will also be activities that will run for the Victorian anchovies, as well as music and children’s shows.
