World Tapas Day celebrates Spain's cultural food on 17th June

The third Thursday in June is World Tapas Day. The event, organised by the Spanish Asociación Saborea, highlights the value of the tapa as a gastronomic tourist attraction.

The Asociación Saborea represents 18 tourist destinations which are convinced Spanish gastronomy is a tourist attraction of the first order.

Due to the restrictions on the hospitality sector this year, the event is especially important to revive consumption of the Spanish snack. In this way, it can help the hospitality industry to recover from the hard knocks of the pandemic.

Culture

World Tapas Day is a showcase for local produce and regional products. This year, there is a special focus on sustainability. Each Spanish Autonomous Community contributes its own gastronomic particularities. This not only enriches the tapa offerings but also shows how tapa is a fundamental part of the Spanish culture and way of life.

Tapas Routes

World Tapas Day marks the start of a month of tapas routes across Spain. From Thursday 17 June to 17 July, various catering associations will organise tapas routes. Eateries can also sign up to participate and make their offer known via the website www.diamundialdelatapa.es. Those who want to enjoy the recipes at home will find a recipe book with the most delicious tidbits.
