SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE – Tenerife can add a new asset to the cultural offer in the island’s capital. It will be the location for the third Rodin museum in the world.

To this end, the city council and the island government signed an agreement with the president of the Paris museum. Furthermore, the agreement is exclusively dedicated to the sculptor Auguste Rodin. Moreover, the city hopes this will attract additional visitors. The other two cities with museums dedicated to this artist are Paris (France) and Philadelphia (United States).

Viera y Clavijo Park

The museum will be located in a facility in Viera y Clavijo Park, once rehabilitation work there is completed. However, exactly when the Rodin Museum in Santa Cruz will open is not yet specified. Although, the agreement signed in Paris stipulates that more will be announced in 2022.

At the signing of the agreement, the Mayor of the City of Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, the Vice President of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Enrique Arriaga, and the Director of the Rodin Museum, Amelie Simier, were present.

Exciting for Santa Cruz

The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife described the agreement as “exciting for Santa Cruz, for the island of Tenerife and for the Canary Islands. Furthermore, it will attract visitors as it is the first international museum with these characteristics in the Canary Islands. It is ” a unique cultural and economic opportunity for the archipelago”. The aim is to link the new project to the permanent exhibition of sculptures on the street, which has existed in the city for almost fifty years.
