Despite everything becoming more expensive, there is a bright spot for people who dream of a house in Spain. Idealista made a list of seven Spanish villages with the cheapest houses including a dream environment. good investment in real estate, tranquility and beauty.
Of course, the larger cities in Spain, such as Barcelona and Madrid, remain popular because of their location and job opportunities. Still, the prices are relative. This while in provinces such as Toledo and Cuenca, both of which border Madrid, you can find villages with houses that are very affordable and less than an hour’s drive from the city.
For this research, Idealista focused on the average price per square metre for a home. Consequently, these seven villages turned out to be a very good investment.
Alcaudete de la Jara
Firstly, Alcaudete de la Jara is located in the province of Toledo and has the cheapest square metre price in all of Spain. On average, buyers here pay €329/m2 for a house. The village has just over 1,700 inhabitants and has a fantastic location on the river Gévalo.
Lucillos
The second village on this list is also located in the province of Toledo and is only a 40 minute drive from the eponymous and charming capital. Here, you will pay an average of €363/m2. Moreover, here is often wonderfully peaceful because the village has only 500 inhabitants.
Almaden
The village of Almadén is located in Ciudad Real and has an average square metre price of €372. It is located about 100 kilometers from the capital of the province and has a population of 5,500. What is special about Almadén is that here you can find the cinnabar mines where mercury is extracted. Furthermore, in 2012, this place was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Pulgar
This village can also be found in Toledo where people pay an average of €374/m2 for a house. The small village has an area of 38 square kilometres and has less than 1,500 inhabitants.
Campo de Criptana
This village is famous for its ten windmills in the style of Don Quijote de La Mancha, some of which date back to the sixteenth century. The village has 13,000 inhabitants and is one of the most densely populated villages on this list. Per square metre, €398 is paid for a house in Campo de Criptana.
Cabezamesada
This village is located in La Mancha and is the perfect place for peace seekers. Moreover, the village has only 330 inhabitants. And, furthermore, an average of €405/m2 is paid for a home here.
Horcajo de Santiago
The last city on this list from Idealista is located in the province of Cuenca. Here, too, an average of €405/m2 is paid for a property. The municipality has only 3,500 inhabitants, but the village is anything but boring. Every day you can enjoy a huge variety of Spanish eateries. The patronal feasts of El Vítor and the feast of Virgen del Carmen are also celebrated here annually.
