Thermometer hits 40 degrees in parts of Spain

40 degrees to hit Spain

WEATHER – After a weekend dominated by storms in Spain, the weather forecast now indicates maximum temperatures of up to 40 degrees in some parts of the country, according to Eltiempo. And with evening temperatures of around 20 degrees, the nights will remain tropically warm. 

This will be the first week of the year when temperatures of intense heat are expected. Although rain is not forecast, there could be storms in the north half by Friday afternoon. However, this prediction can still change. 

Andalucia

In Andalucia the heat will be most noticeable. In the provinces of Seville and Cordoba, temperatures could reach 40ºC between Tuesday and Thursday, with highs of 37-40ºC predicted. Also in the provinces of Huelva, Jaén and Granada, and possibly Almeria, it could reach over 35ºC. Furthermore, in many areas, the thermometers will not fall too much during the nights. With minimum temperatures above 20ºC, the nights will be tropical. Then from Friday onwards, temperatures may drop a little, but it will still be warm.  

Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid Region

These three sub-regions in the central and south-western part of the peninsula will be particularly hot. Extremadura can expecte the highest temperatures of 35-37ºC.  In the provinces of Ciudad Real and Toledo, and in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, especially in the south of the region, temperatures will be around 35ºC or slightly higher.  

Canary Islands

Winds from the south at high levels in the atmosphere will raise temperatures on the islands. Furthermore, dust or haze from the Sahara is expected most likely from Tuesday onwards. Mid-week, coastal areas could be around 30ºC on the coast with inland temperatures of over 35ºC. However, inland on the southern slope of Gran Canaria temperatures could reach 38-39ºC.  

Cogesa Expats

Huesca, Zaragoza and Lleida

The Ebro Valley is the only area in the northern half of Spain where temperatures will pass the 35ºC mark. In the south of Huesca and in the Pla de Lleida temperatures will reach 32-34ºC. Likewise in other northern inland areas such as the centre of Castilla y León and the province of Ourense.   

Region of Murcia

The region of Murcia will be the hottest area in eastern Spain with inland temperatures of 35ºC. Furthermore, Wednesday is expected to be the hottest day.  

On the coast, the situation will be a little more bearable. In Cartagena a maximum temperature of 28ºC is forecast for the same day.  

UV Index and forest fires  

From Wednesday onwards, the UV index in western Andalucia may reach extremely high maximums. A similar situation will be Extremadura and the western provinces of Castilla-La Mancha on Thursday. 

Moreover, high temperatures and dry weather will increase the risk of forest fires. This is especially from Tuesday, in the province of Seville, Extremadura and in the southwest of Castilla y Le
