MáLAGA – The province of Málaga is allocating €20 million to repair the damage caused by the storm of the past few days and the various episodes of Calima.
All municipalities in the province will receive an amount in the coming days so that they can start the repair and cleaning work as soon as possible. Big damage was caused by the torrential rains and the storm with high waves as a result. Consequently, a lot of money is needed to clean buildings due to the mud rains caused by Calima.

The president of the provincial body, Francisco Salado, announced the initiative. This has to be approved in the plenary meeting on 20 April. The unconditional support will vary from EUR 100,000 for 18 municipalities with fewer than 500 inhabitants to EUR 493,500 for ten municipalities with more than 30,000 inhabitants.

Salado pointed out that the coastal municipalities have already started to repair the damage in the past two days. And, in the coming days, they will send the corresponding damage reports to Costa’s coastal authority.
Urgent request
They have also made an urgent request to the central government to act in this emergency in light of Holy Week starting this weekend and the accompanying massive arrival of tourists to the southern Spanish coastal province.
Plan needed for long-term coastal protection
The provincial president continued: “Costas must also draw up once and for all a comprehensive plan for the protection and stabilization of the beaches of the Costa del Sol, which are the main attractions of one of the main tourist destinations in Spain and Europe”.
Main activities
The main work will consist of cleaning the beaches, clearing the sand from the promenades, repairing beach furniture and sanitary facilities, restoring rural roads and accessing agricultural and livestock farms due to the heavy rainfall, and cleaning up streets and buildings after the mud rain.
How much money?
The 18 municipalities with fewer than 500 inhabitants will receive €100,000; the 14 with between 500 and 1,000 inhabitants, €115,000; the 18 municipalities with between 1,000 and 2,000 inhabitants, €130,000; the 13 places between 2,001 and 3,000 people, €150,000; the 16 cities between 3,001 and 5,000 inhabitants, €170,000; the five municipalities between 5,001 and 7,500 inhabitants, €200,000; and the four locations between 7,501 and 10,000 people, €220,000.
Similarly, €245,000 is allocated to the only municipality with between 10,001 and 15,000 inhabitants; the two cities with between 15,000 and 20,000 inhabitants, €275,000; to the four municipalities between 20,001 and 30,000 inhabitants €295,750; and €493,500 euros to the 12 cities with more than 30,000 inhabitants.
