The Lionesses have done it #WEEURO22

FOOTBALL – UEFA Women’s EURO 2022: England defeated eight-time champions, Germany in extra time to win the final. The Lionesses were unstoppable and secured the first major trophy since 1966.

UEFA Women´s EURO 2022 title has been won by England. The Lionesses took on Germany this afternoon in front of a record crowd of 87,192 at Wembley Stadium.

Goals

Goals from substitute, Ella Toone of Manchester United and Manchester City’s Chloe Kelly secured Sarina Wiegman’s side a deserved victory against Germany.

Chloe Kelly scored the winning goal in the second half of extra time to give England a 2-1 victory and claim their first EURO title.

The Lionesses started the game strong. Although, after about 25 minutes, the German side seemed to pick up and begin to dominate the match.

However, Leah Williamson had a good chance in the first half, but the ball just sailed over the net. Then, in the second half, Striker Tabea Wassmuth of Germany also had a good chance, but it was seen off by Mary Earps.

Extra time

The first goal came from Toone after 62 minutes with Lina Magull of Germany pulling off the equaliser just 17 minutes later. Magull had been threatening throughout. However, the game ended 1-1 draw which meant extra time.

Cogesa Expats

Both teams continued to give it their all, but during extra time, the England ladies grew in confidence. Then, a Lauren Hemp corner was swung in, the ball bounced down off Lucy Bronze and Kelly tucked away her first international goal in the 111th minute of the game. This could not have come at a better time!

Fantastic fans

After that, buoyed by the goal and the raucous crowd, England pushed to put on a show and seal the title. It was gutsy, exhausting and exhilarating but England´s Lionesses brought it home.

Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses have inspired millions to follow women’s football like never before. Furthermore, there are hopes it’s sparked a culture change in the sport for generations to come.

Beth Mead – Golden Boot, Player of the tournament, and top goal scorer

Mead was substituted after 64 minutes of play by Chloe Kelly who went on to score the winning goal.
