BARCELONA – Support in Spain, a welfare support network run in collaboration with the British Embassy extends it services to Catalonia.
Support in Spain is an initiative set up in 2017 by a British consulate in southern Spain who noticed many vulnerable British residents on the Costa del Sol did not know where to turn to when they needed help.
The project developed into a website and is now active in in Catalonia, Murcia, the Costa Blanca, Almeria, the Canaries, Balearic Islands and Costa del Sol, where the majority of Spain’s 300,000 Brits reside. Some 35,000 Brits reside in Catalonia.
Support in Spain website highlights local networks
The website allows people to search for support networks, Spanish authorities and information local their town or village. This will be especially useful in Catalonia where there are fewer charities of this kind active in the area.
The charity is still widening the variety of welfare resources to add to its growing network. The organisation initially intended their website for the over-50s. However, there are more and more organisations aimed at helping younger people listed in the directory. The aim is now not just the older citizens but the vulnerable of all ages.

Age in Spain is another useful non-profit organisation for Catalonia-based Brits. Based in Mallorca, it has a huge presence across Catalonia and provides provide free English-language services and support, especially for older people. They assist English speakers on their rights and benefit entitlements.
