EIVISSA – British tour operators are planning to offer up to 15% more places to Ibiza next summer than they did in 2019, before the covid pandemic.

This was explained yesterday by the Director of Tourism, Juan Miguel Costa, on the second day of the World Travel Market (WTM) in London. Costa explained that with this expansion, some tour operators want to cover “last minute” reservations. According to the president of the island government, Vicent Marí, these are expected to be “more important” this coming summer than in previous seasons. Additionally, the sector wants to respond to the holiday packages paid, but not taken in 2020 due to covid.

On the first day of the WTM, Marí stressed that the pace of holiday package sales for 2022 is “similar” to that of the period before the health crisis. However, he also called for caution as the situation is still “highly volatile” due to the pandemic.

Costa stressed British tour operators plan to bring the next season forward to April 1 and extend it to November. In addition, British Airways has a daily connection to Ibiza all year round.

Diversification of offer

The mayor of Sant Antoni, Marcos Serra, presented the new promotional video for his municipality on Tuesday at the Ibiza stand. He explained that the municipality is working on several campaigns to diversify the tourist offer of Sant Antoni and attract tourists “all year round”.

The campaign ‘A whole year of sun’ aims to convey that Sant Antoni is “open all year round”. The promotional campaign has started on the Dutch market. The aim of the ‘Sant Antoni to eat’ and ‘Sant Antoni km0’ campaigns is to promote Sant Antoni as one of the ‘most powerful gastronomic destinations in the whole country’.

Santa Eulària, for its part, presented at the WTM the reissue of the catalogue of hiking routes and the new product ‘Charming restaurants’. With this, this municipality wants to regain the lost British market share. A market share that is very important in areas such as Cala Llonga and Canar.
