MADRID – Spain has promised to support Ukraine against the Russian invasion. That is why the country will send the first six Leopard 2A4 tanks to the country after Easter.

The tanks have been restored in record time at the Santa Bárbara Sistemas factory in Alcalá de Guadaíra (Seville). Before the tanks head for the battlefield, target practice was conducted this week at the Cerro Muriano training ground in Córdoba.

The tanks will first be transported to Poland by sea before being delivered to the Ukrainian authorities. With this shipment, Spain joins Germany, Poland and Norway who have already delivered tanks to the Ukrainian army.

In addition to the tanks, Spain also supplied Ukraine with 20 armoured infantry transport vehicles. Furthermore, the country has trained more than 850 Ukrainian soldiers in the use of the Leopard tanks.

The shipment of the Leopard tanks is an important step in Spain’s support for Ukraine. As confirmed by government sources in El Pais, it will further strengthen relations between the two countries.
