MADRID – The Spanish Public Health Commission on Tuesday approved the vaccination plan for the last inhabitants to be vaccinated against Covid-19. Spaniards between the ages of 12 and 40 are the last target groups to be vaccinated.
The committee agreed on Tuesday to invite people between the ages of 30 and 39. The penultimate group that follows are those between 20 and 29 years of age. And the last group is the teenagers between the ages of 12 and 19 are invited to come and get a shot.
Final vaccination plan
Spain will give priority to people aged 12 and older who, for example, are dependent on care or have a disease that puts them at greater risk of becoming seriously ill after a corona infection.
Overlap in vaccination agreement
At present, most regions are vaccinating people between the ages of 40 and 49. However, some regions have already started vaccinating people under the age of 40. While this is officially the order when the target groups under 40 are invited, Health Secretary Carolina Darias has indicated that it is fine if the groups vaccinate overlap.
Spain will receive more vaccines in the coming period
Carolina Darias tells the Spanish newspaper El País: “With more vaccines available in the coming period. And with summer and festival season just around the corner, the fact more vaccines are available in certain regions. It may mean that vaccination in Spain is not synchronised. However, this need not be a problem.”
Spanish regions are trying to reach more people over 40
Spain is now ready for the last three target groups of Spaniards who have not yet been vaccinated. Nevertheless, the national committee insists the regional authorities must continue to do everything possible to reach people aged 40 and older not yet vaccinated, in order to still get a shot.
More than 37.6 million shots have been taken in Spain. This is according to the June 15 report from the Ministry of Health of Spain. With this, 45.8% of the Spanish population has received one dose and 27.4% has had both shots.
