Last year, due to the pandemic, the event was held online for the first time since its inception in 1980. However, this year, Spain will be live again with 105 representatives and 13 stands. Right now, tourism organisations are doing their very best to present their country as attractively as possible. In the current climate, Spain needs this income more than ever.

Sustainable tourism and socially oriented destinations in Spain

Spain’s tourism strategy aims to address the challenges of the climate crisis, endangered biodiversity, and sustainable consumption and production. Spain announced during the WTM 2021 that it will work directly with local tourism companies and seek organisations and suppliers who jointly form a complete tourist offer. Sustainable tourism and socially oriented destinations are becoming the main pillars for Spain.

The United Kingdom is one of the most important countries for Spain when it comes to tourism. That is why Turespaña wants to work with the British travel industry to reach as many Brits as possible and convince people it is safe to travel to and in Spain.

Arming tourism against crises such as Covid-19

Spain is committed to minimizingscarbon emissions in the tourism sector. Spain also wants to better prepare for crises such as the corona pandemic, which has hit tourism hard. “The tourism recovery between Spain and the UK needs to be stronger and greener than ever,” Turespaña reports.
