InSpain.news regularly brings you information on the latest scams doing the rounds. Mostly these scams are online, but others are by post, or even in person. The latest to be aware of is the “fake rape” scam.
All scams are deceptive schemes or tricks used to cheat someone out of something, especially money or personal information. They are designed to pray to the vulnerable, and sensitive, who will act out of fear or compassion. But sometimes also busy people can be tricked as they may act quickly without thinking. The “fake rape” scam is not new, but it seems to have reared its head again and is something we should all be aware of.

Rape or sexual violence is extremely sensitive and traumatic for those who have experienced it. However, it is important that victims feel able to speak up about it and receive the correct support. And also, so the perpetrator can be punished. Therefore, those that use “fake rape” as a means of scamming people endanger those who genuinely need help.
Imagine someone comes to your home and buzzes the intercom to say they need help as they have been raped. The instant reaction would be to open the door or entrance to the property. Sadly, at the moment, some people are simply using this to gain access to assault or rob. Unless you have video security at the entrance, it is impossible to confirm if it truly is someone in trouble. Furthermore, it is also impossible to know whether it is just one person, or perhaps there is a gang.
Anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted should immediately contact the police who will then begin the correct procedure and collect statements and evidence. Therefore, this mustn’t be interfered with.

Contact the police
In either situation, the best thing to do is to contact the police. If a crime has been committed against a person, then they should speak directly to the police as soon as possible. Equally, if it is a scam, the threat of calling the police will ensure the person or persons leave.
Absolutely no one deserves to be raped or sexually assaulted, and to use such a topic for financial gain is despicable.
