rain and storms in Spain

This week has two official days off, which is why many Spaniards are out and about during thepuente de diciembre‘. However, the weather gods are not in favour of the holidaymakers. The Spanish Aemet warns this week for a real series of storms.

On Wednesday, December 7, it will start with very dense fog in several parts of the country, especially in Zaragoza, south of Huesca, Lleida and parts of Extremadura and Castilla-La Mancha. As the morning progresses, the fog will give way to many clouds. Only on the Balearic Islands and the southeast coast of Spain will it stay sunny.

On Wednesday, a lot of rain and storms started in two Spanish regions

The Aemet warns on Wednesday from noon of heavy rainfall in Extremadura and western Andalucia. In the course of the evening, the rain will intensify in these regions and localised storms may occur. Aemet has given the code yellow for the evening due to heavy rainfall and storm.

The biggest warning is issued in the Canary Islands. From Wednesday, heavy rainfall is predicted on La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria. This rain is likely to continue through Friday. The yellow code is issued due to heavy rain and wind on all Canary Islands. Furthermore, the Spanish weather service also expects storms on the island of La Palma and El Hierro, which is why code orange has been issued for these islands.

Thursday rain, wind gusts and thunderstorms in large part of Spain

The rain, which was still limited to Extremadura and western Andalucia on Wednesday, will expand from Thursday morning and cause many showers and storms spread over the rest of Spain. In the centre and west of Spain, these showers will be accompanied by thunder. Code yellow due to rain and strong winds applies on Thursday in the regions of Andalucia, Asturias, Castile-La Mancha and Galicia. In Castile y León and Extremadura, code orange even applies due to heavy rainfall on Thursday.

Furthermore, on Friday, it will not be much better. In principle, the Aemet expects rain, strong winds and thunderstorms all day long in almost all of Spain. However, some local areas along the eastern coastline may escape the storms.
