Sarabia scores

FOOTBALL – Spain had an impressive 0-1 victory in Group B last night after a messy start against Greece. Although there was a scare in the second half when the Greek team had a goal disallowed. However, the penalty from Sarabia was enough to secure the three points.

The other teams in Group B played earlier in the day and provided a pre-game boost for Spain. Group leaders, Sweden lost 2-0 to Georgia. This means Spain requires a win or draw in their game against Sweden on Sunday at Seville. Whereas only a win for Sweden will do. Spain is currently on 16 points, with Sweden on 15.

UK, Ireland and Gibraltar

Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Gibraltar are further down in their league tables and will be unlikely to qualify. However, Wales in group E is 3rd on goal difference and plays bottom-placed Belarus tomorrow. A win would take them second from the top behind Belgium. Wales still has a chance in the play-offs.

Scotland is more than halfway through their game against Moldova and is currently 1-0 up. Patterson scored in the 38th minute. However, although they are 2nd in Group F, they are still 4 points behind leaders, Denmark who have one more game to play.

In Group I, England sit in top position. They play 3rd placed Albania later this evening.

Qatar World Cup

Only the winners of the ten groups will qualify directly for Qatar. The final three places will be allocated via play-offs. This includes the 10 runners-up from each group and the two best-ranked group winners from the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League who do not finish in the top two in their qualifying group.
