After the super outbreak among partying young people in Mallorca, the regional government decided on Monday afternoon to take extra measures for travel to the Balearic Islands. There will again be a test obligation for people who arrive via organised group trips to the Spanish islands.
These measures only apply to organised group trips to one of the Balearic Islands. If the group is larger than 20 people, everyone must have a PCR test or be fully vaccinated no later than 48 hours before arrival.
Exception for certain types of group travel
Groups that are an exception to this rule are people who visit the islands especially for events, conferences or competitions. The regional government are therefore mainly introducing this rule for young people celebrating their final exams or admission to university.
Previously no test obligation for Spaniards
Under certain conditions, Spaniards who wanted to travel to the Balearic Islands were previously exempt from a test obligation. After the super outbreak in Mallorca among Spanish students, the regional government is tightening up on this requirement.
The regional board also announced it would postpone the possible relaxations that would take effect on July 11th for the time being. This in anticipation of the current health situation on the Spanish islands.
State of affairs in Spain after Mallorca parties
Earlier, 900 students tested positive for covid after various parties and concerts in Palma de Mallorca. Less than a few hours later, the Spanish regional authorities announced the number of infected young people exceeded 1,000. At the moment, 12 young people are in hospital. 260 young people are currently in quarantine because of a positive or unknown PCR result.
