Restaurant Gastrobar Florin in Torremolinos is open again

TORREMOLINOS – After a difficult and sad period due to his girlfriend Carola Meijer’s death, Barry will reopen the doors of Restaurant Gastrobar Florin in Torremolinos on May 1. Exactly on the day they first opened 13 years ago. 

Restaurant Florin is located in the heart of the very popular district of La Carihuela among holidaymakers, in Calle Decano Higueras del Castillo no. 50. But, for those who know the area: next to the Eurobar and opposite the large parking lot. Not only for holidaymakers but also for many residents on this southern Spanish holiday coast, Florin is a permanent address where they go if they want to spoil their taste buds. 

The excellent reputation of Restaurant Florin

Florin’s good reputation is not only evident from countless loyal returning guests. The always glowing reviews are also significant and a logical consequence of Barry and Carola’s years of dedication, love for good food and heart for their guests. Sadly, Carola cannot experience the thirteenth anniversary of her and her great love Barry’s life’s work. She died on March 13 at the age of 44 from the consequences of a severe form of the disease amyloidosis. 

It will take some getting used to for regular guests that they are no longer greeted enthusiastically as usual by the cheerful Carola, who is missed intensely by many. Yet they will not find any strange faces, because Ilyani is back and, together with Debbie, in charge of the service. Ilyany and her partner Mark also worked in Florin last summer. After working hard in an Austrian ski resort last winter season, they are now very excited to get back to work in La Carihuela. 

“Sharing food is sharing love” 

Mark will assist Barry in the kitchen to create all the delicious dishes. Without exception, these are also served as small works of art. Florin is known for the variety of small dishes that guests can share and taste. It is not for nothing that their motto is ‘Sharing food is sharing love’. Lots of options to choose from 

Praised are the lamb spring rolls, the fresh oysters and of course the tuna of always the best quality and coming from the market Atarrazanas in Málaga. Sushi lovers can choose from salmon or tuna sashimi, spicy tuna tartare with wakame, or tuna tataki with wakame and wasabi, among others. Something completely different is the beet carpaccio with strawberry and goat cheese or the Mexican tacos. If you have trouble making choices, you can simply leave that to Barry. He is happy to help you by surprising you with his selection. 

Classics and specials 

In addition to all these delicacies, there are also the classics on the menu. Think of carpaccio, salmon fillet, Black Angus tournedos with pepper sauce, a fresh curry with cod, or even a delicious Babi Pangang. Furthermore, there are regularly changing ‘specials’ on the board, for example, smoked sardine with grilled bell pepper or Foie Gras dots. 

From Monday 1 to Sunday 7 May, the kitchen of Gastrobar Florin will be open from 6.00 pm to 11.00 pm. From May 8, the kitchen’s opening hours will be the same, but Florin will be closed on all Tuesdays. Reservations can be made via +34 664 605 887. Follow Florin on Facebook.
