Police officer died in shootout with Guardia Civil in Spain

BURGOS – Tragedy struck in Burgos, Castilla y Leon Wednesday, as a police officer died in a shootout with members of the Guardia Civil. The incident occurred in the afternoon at a petrol station located on the outskirts of the city. 

According to reports, the police officer was in the process of conducting an investigation when he encountered the Guardia Civil. The encounter soon turned violent, and shots were fired. Unfortunately, the police officer was fatally wounded in the exchange. However, despite efforts to save his life, he later passed away. 

CadenaSER writes the Guardia Civil has launched an investigation into the incident. But, initial reports suggest it may have been a case of mistaken identity. The police officer was apparently not wearing a uniform at the time, and this may have led to confusion on the part of the Guardia Civil.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the region, with many expressing their condolences to the family and loved ones of the fallen police officer. The Mayor of Burgos, Daniel de la Rosa, expressed his sadness and condolences on Twitter, stating that “Burgos is in mourning for the loss of a brave police officer who gave his life in the line of duty. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.” 

The police officer’s identity has not been released at this time, and it is not yet known whether anyone else was injured during the shootout. The petrol station where the incident occurred has been closed until further notice. Furthermore, police and Guardia Civil officers remain on the scene as the investigation continues.
