MADRID – The Spanish pilots’ union Sepla also joins Monday’s strike action, announcing the strike of the company’s pilots in all its bases and workplaces.
The strike is scheduled for December 22, 23, 26, 27, 29 and 30 and January 2 and 3, 2023. Pilots will go on strike due to the “blockade” in the negotiations of their collective bargaining agreement.
Uniting more than 70% of the pilots affected by the conflict, Sepla criticizes the airline’s “unchangeable position” on “fundamental aspects of working conditions and wage demands of the social part of the sixth collective bargaining agreement”. The company already criticized this collective agreement in September 2021. However, it “never showed a will to negotiate and rather a violation of what has been agreed,” the union said in a press statement on Monday. In it, Sepla explained that Air Nostrum presented a salary review proposal at the end of November. However, that “worsened” the proposal previously offered.
Also, strike of Aena employees
Sepla’s strike announcement joins that of the CCOO union. Earlier on Monday, it called for 10,000 Aena employees to stop working from Christmas to Epiphany on January 6. In this case, it concerns the days 22, 23, 30 and 31 December, in addition to 6 and 8 January 2023. The reason for the strike call is that employees want to receive their productivity payments again. The company stopped paying it out during the first year of the pandemic because the public-private group stopped making profits.
