Official 2022 FIFA World Cup Broadcasting rights in Spain

FOOTBALL – There are just 6 days remaining before the FIFA World Cup 2022 kicks off at the in Qatar. The 64 matches will take place across eight venues: Al Bayt Stadium Khalifa International Stadium Al Thumama Stadium Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium Lusail Stadium Stadium 974 Education City Stadium Al Janoub Stadium.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be the 22nd running of the FIFA World Cup competition. 32 teams, split into 8 groups of 4 will take part in the Qatar event from 20 November to 18 December 2022.

England, Wales, USA, and Iran are all in Group B. Spain, in Group E, has Costa Rica, Germany, and Japan as opponents. Check out all the groups here.

Opening match

Group stages will commence on Sunday November 20. The opening match on this day will feature Qatar v Ecuador. This is the only game played on the opening day.

England begin their World Cup challenge in their game against Iran the following day. This will be screened at 2.00 pm Monday November 21.

Also on Monday, Senegal will take on the Netherlands, and the USA will play against Wales. Wales will play England on November 29.

On Tuesday, Australia will face France. The first game for Spain will be on Wednesday 23 against Costa Rica. Canada also take on Belgium on Wednesday.

The Group stages will be played until December 2. At this point, the top 2 teams from each group will continue to the next round of 16

Match schedules World Cup 2022

The games are scheduled to be played at 11.00am, 2.00 pm, 5.00 pm, and 8.00 pm (Spanish time). However, when the teams advance through the rounds, 2 matches will be played each day. These will take place at 4.00 pm and 8.00pm. The winner of the Qatar World Cup will be decided on December 18 at 4.00 pm. Meanwhile, third position will have been decided the previous day with that game also at 4.00 pm.

How to watch the games

Mediapro

Mediapro has secured the Spanish television rights for the Qatar World Cup. Subsequently, it struck sublicensing agreements with pay-TV network Movistar+ and RTVE. This will allow RTVE to broadcast 20 games as detailed below. In addition, it will also allow the remaining 44 games to be broadcast to Movistar Plus+ customers. This will be done via access to the Gol Mundial platform using an authenticated login. 

RTVE

Twenty free to view matches, will be Broadcast on the National Spanish Television broadcaster  channel 1. RTVE will air the opening FIFA World Cup match, all the Spanish team´s matches. Furthermore, it will also show two more quarter-final fixtures, both semi-finals, and the final.

However, if you want to be able to view every game from the comfort of your home, you will have to subscribe.

Movistar Plus+

The Telefónica-owned pay-TV service, Movistar has signed an agreement with Mediapro. And as such, will show all 64 games. Mediapro has produced a new 24-hour channel which will be distributed on Movistar. This is completely dedicated to the Qatar World Cup. The channel will also feature match analysis, interviews, news, and updates.

Movistar Plus has said:

Movistar customers who have contracted the LaLiga or All football package in their offer (miMovistar or Fusión), will be able to watch the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ in full at no additional cost.

Gol Mundial will also be available to those without a pay-TV subscription for a single payment of €19.99.

Bars and Fan Zones

If you didn´t make it to Qatar but want to watch the games with some atmosphere and fellow supporters, there are plenty of bars for you to choose from. You can also check out your local area for any Fan Zones organised.
