corona infections continue to fall

MADRID – As the vaccination campaign progresses, corona infections continue to fall in almost all of Spain. Fewer and fewer positive cases are being registered, and there are less hospital admissions

However, although the favourable epidemiological development is good news, it also invites many people to stop following the prevention measures. For example, on Saturday evening 6000 young people gathered in different locations in Barcelona to party together in the street. Subsequently they were sent home by the police.

Madrid

Also in the Madrid region, where the infection rate remains relatively high, the decrease in the number of infections and deaths continues. However, the number of hospital admissions increased slightly in this region. On Saturday there were 684 covid patients in a regular ward and 290 in the IC. And on Sunday there were 693 and 294 respectively. This means Madrid remains just below 1000 hospital admissions.

Basque Country

A positive development has also been registered in recent days in the Basque Country, where a relatively large number of people were infected with the corona virus. With 205 new infections in the last 24 hours, this is the lowest level since August last year.

Andalucia

In Andalucia, 46 covid patients were released from hospital on Sunday. In this region, 711 people were still hospitalised last Sunday, 178 of whom were on IC. That is five fewer than Saturday.

Vaccination of inhabitants between 40 and 49

In the regions of Basque Country, Navarra, Galicia, Canary Islands, Murcia, Asturias, La Rioja, Cantabria, Castile-La Mancha, Aragón, the Balearic Islands and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, all inhabitants between the ages of 40 and 49 are being vaccinated. The regions of Catalonia, Valencia and Madrid expect to start vaccinating this age group in mid-June. Only the Castile and León region has not yet issued a date for the start of the campaign for residents under 50 years of age.

In the smaller Canary Islands such as Lanzarote and El Hierro, all residents aged 38 are already being vaccinated. The district councils of Castile-La Mancha and Murcia have announced that all people in their thirties will be vaccinated at the end of June. In Andalucia, under 50s are currently being vaccinated.

No shortage of Moderna-vaccine

Rovi pharmaceutical lab in Granada has announced it can produce 100 million doses of Moderna vaccine per year. This will ensure corona infections continue to fall.

Corona deaths

Sadly, many are still dying, however the deaths are also reducing. In Catalonia no deaths were reported on Sunday. While in Madrid, 3 deaths were reported.
