New series on all Spanish national parks on TVE

Sierra de las Nieves will feature on national parks series

MADRID – The Spanish national television broadcaster TVE is about to broadcast a series concerning national parks in Spain. Throughout the 16 episodes, scientists, technicians, experts in various disciplines, park staff, and residents will show their vision of the nature reserves. 

The Autonomous National Parks Organisation (OAPN) contributed to the series. Therefore, they advised the shooting team to provide as realistic a picture as possible of these protected areas. 

Episode 1 of Spanish national parks series - Picos de Europa

Spanish national parks TV series

The first episode of ‘De parque en parque‘ will be broadcast on Saturday 23 April at 6.30 pm. Furthermore, this will be about the Picos de Europa National Park. Initially presented on Wednesday, the series is titled ‘From park to park’. The episodes are produced by RTVE together with Nubla Films and Tarabilla 97. The Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) also collaborated on it.

The series will be broadcast on TVE2 every Saturday, from April 23. Moreover, the first episode is about the Picos de Europa National Park. This is located in the Cantabrian Mountains in the provinces of Asturias, León, and Cantabria. Created in 1918, Montaña de Covadonga was the very first Spanish National Park. As a result, protection of this natural area began from then.

Picos de Europa 

The Picos de Europa area is home to the largest limestone formation in Atlantic Europe. Furthermore, it has significant karst processes, sinkholes up to 1,000 metres deep, marked glacial erosion, and numerous lakes. The park has populations of chamois, roe deer, wolves, and sometimes bears. In addition, more than 100 species of birds live in the forests, including the black woodpecker and capercaillie. And, furthermore, among the large birds of prey, the griffon vulture and the golden eagle. 

Mountain landscapes 

In each of the episodes, the series ‘From Park to Park’ will cover the Spanish geography from start to finish; from the unique mountain landscapes on both the peninsula and in the Canary archipelago. As such, it will include the following national parks;

Maritime Terrestrial Parks 

The episodes about the coastal national parks include the maritime-terrestrial parks of the Atlantic islands of Galicia and the Cabrera archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea off the Balearic Islands. 

Wetlands 

Furthermore, the wetlands are represented by the Tablas de Daimiel and by Doñana.

Parks with Mediterranean Forest 

You get a glimpse into the world of the Mediterranean forest by watching the episodes about the national parks of Cabañeros and Monfragüe. 

Volcanic area 

Finally, you will learn more about the volcanic landscapes in the episodes about the Canary Islands and its national parks Timanfaya and the magical Garajonay.
