MADRID – From March 30, the Spanish authorities are also demanding negative PCR tests on entry by road. This will be checked at Spanish land borders. Until now, a negative test result only had to be shown upon entry by boat or plane.
The PCR test must have been administered within the last 72 hours. The new requirement has been published in the Spanish Official Journal BOE. It is the first time that this requirement has also been imposed on road travellers. The measure applies to everyone aged 7 and older.
Frontier workers and people working in transport do not need to submit a negative PCR test. People who live in border zones are also exempt from this new measure. Only as long as they remain within a radius of 30 kilometres of their home address.
Under the restrictive measures in force during the Easter period (March 26 to April 9), an entry and exit ban applies to all regions. People are allowed to come together with a maximum of 4 people if that is in an indoor space and a maximum of 6 people applies for outdoor spaces.
Foreigners in Spain
Despite the perimeter closure of the Spanish regions, the external border of Spain remains open to people from other EU countries. For example, at the moment Germans are travelling en masse to Mallorca and there have been French tourists in the Spanish capital for weeks who come to soak up culture in one of the museums in the city or sit on a terrace as the catering industry in Madrid is open until 11PM. As of March 30, the travel restrictions for British have also been lifted. The Spanish authorities will allow British people to travel to Spain again. However, they risk a large fine in their own country if they make an unnecessary trip.
Several Spanish regions see the virus figures increase again despite the tightened measures around Easter. This is especially true for La Rioja, Madrid, Catalonia, Valencia, Basque Country and Andalusia. The Spanish Minister of Health, Darias, has therefore again asked the population to be careful and to comply with the measures.
