MADRID – In recent days, mysterious lights that were not aeroplanes appeared in the sky over various parts of Spain in the evening hours. When people don’t immediately recognise something as an aircraft or satellite, they quickly think of UFOs.
That was the case above the Parc de la Mar on Sunday around 7.30 pm, reports the website Crónica Balear. Readers even spoke of a “spaceship”. It was a series of mysterious lights pointed at each other and moving at the speed of an aeroplane.
The strange phenomenon was also reported from the Canary Islands a few days ago. Concerned residents of the village of Ingenio in Gran Canaria reported to the daily newspaper La Provincia and suspected that they might be UFOs. The newspaper devoted an extensive article to the phenomenon.
Starlink satellites
Other Spanish newspapers also reported on the light phenomena. However, according to the reports, it was in all likelihood private Starlink satellites that multi-billionaire Elon Musk’s company SpaceX launched into space in recent years.
Unidentified flying objects
UFOs have always captured people’s imaginations and countless books were published in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. The sightings of unidentified flying objects are currently returning to the public eye after the US and Canada shot down several unmanned and previously unidentified flying objects in recent days.
Starlink
Starlink is a satellite network developed by SpaceX, a company founded by Elon Musk, which aims to bring the Internet to every corner of the planet. Starlink’s idea is to place a total of 12,000 satellites in low Earth orbit, of which about 2,400 are already in space and already operational.
When to see satellites over Spain again?
It is not the first time that Starlink satellites have been visible. Yet they continue to attract attention and confuse people who are witnessing them for the first time.
