Mallorca man arrested on suspicion of assault

MALLORCA – A Mallorca man has been arrested on suspicion of infecting 22 people with coronavirus. He is reported to have gone to work and to his local gym despite having a fever and a temperature of 40C.

As reported on Sky News, the man is said to have taken his mask off at work and coughed at people saying he would infect them with the virus. Twenty two people were infected include three babies. At the time of the incident, he was awaiting the results of a PCR test.

Refused to leave work

Days prior to the incident, the man felt unwell causing his colleague’s concern. But despite his fellow workers and managers requesting he go home, he refused and continued to finish his shift. However, once he had finished work, he went to get a Covid test.

In a statement released on Saturday, police said the man had been exhibiting symptoms for several days but refused to go home from his work in the town of Manacor.

Prior to receiving the results of his test, he continued to go to work and attend his gym. He worked in a “well known” business in the town of Manacor. Manacor is the second largest town in Mallorca after Palma. It is also the birthplace of Rafa Nadal.

Cogesa Expats

According to The Guardian, he ignored his co-workers and spent the day walking around his workplace, deliberately lowering his mask when he coughed and taunting them by saying: “I’m going to infect you all with coronavirus,” police said.

The test was positive

His PCR test result came through at the end of the day. It was positive! This caused distress among his colleagues who were then tested. Five tested positive, and they in turn infected other members of their, including three babies.

At the gym, three people were also infected as they had been in direct contact with him. They too were infected and passed on the virus to family members.

Arrested on suspicion of assault

Police said his actions resulted in a total of 22 infections, although none required hospital treatment. The man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
