On Friday 12 March, the spectacular Caminito del Rey footpath, one of the biggest tourist attractions in Malaga province, will open again. The trail was temporarily closed due to measures taken during the third wave.
Good news for those who want to walk the Caminito del Rey in the coming month; tickets are available again. The tourist attraction in Malaga province reopens to the public on 12 March, following measures taken in connection with the third wave. Regional and provincial lockdowns remain in force, so the attraction is not open to everyone. Tickets are still on sale for walks until 4 April.
Most dangerous path in the world
The Caminito del Rey, the impressive walking route through the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge, was long considered the most dangerous path in the world. However, it was thoroughly restored five years ago. Since the trail’s reopening in March 2015, millions of tourists have walked its length.
Tickets on sale
A ticket costs €10 per person for those who want to walk on their own, and €18 euros for a guided walk. English-speaking or Spanish-speaking guides relate the history and facts of the path. In case of another unforeseen closure, money will either be refunded or another date can be chosen.
Safety measures
Since its reopening on 12 June 2020, after the first wave, the Caminito del Rey implemented safety measures against Covid-19. It has the certification ‘Preparado frente al Covid’ by the Secretary of State for Tourism confirming the precautions.

Caminito del Rey is a nominated World Heritage Site; the application is ongoing. The walk is spectacular, and has great value for nature and culture.
The Los Gaitanes gorge is a protected nature reserve. In addition, the cave of Ardales has evidence of prehistoric human presence. Scientific research has shown that the paintings found there may be among the oldest in the world.
Then there is the Iglesia Rupestre de Bobastro, the remains of a church that witnessed the Mozarabic revolt. There is also the La Aguilillas funerary monument in Camillas. Furthermmore, the hydroelectric plant and the old course of the Caminito del Rey are fine examples of engineering, as well as the reservoirs of El Chorro, Conde del Guadalhorce and Gaitanejo.
