FOOTBALL – There has been a lot of football action over the last few weeks with Spanish and English teams in La Liga, Europa, and Champions league matches.
There are only a few games remaining in La Liga, and both Europa and Champions League matches are at the semi-final stages.
La Liga
Things are hotting up in La Liga. Real Madrid remains comfortably in the lead with 72 points. Sevilla is in 2nd place with 60 points. However, 3rd place Barcelona has 2 games in hand and currently has 57 points.
Sevilla won 4-2 against Granada on Friday, and Real Madrid scored twice against Getafe yesterday. Barcelona is away to Levante this evening (Sunday). A win would put them back in the second spot.
Europa League
Leicester City plays away to PSV on Thursday, April 14 in the second leg of the quarter-finals. It is 0-0 on aggregate. The winner over the two legs will go through to the semi-finals at the beginning of May.
Champions League
The results from the quarter-finals first leg are;
- Benfica v Liverpool 1-3
- Man City v Atletico 1-0
- Villarreal v Bayern 1-0
- Chelsea v Real Madrid 1-3
The return legs will be played on the 12th and 13th of April.
Women´s football
Women´s Football in Spain has had a lot of deserved attention recently. In the last `El Clasico´ La Liga match Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 5-0. This victory allowed them to win the league even though there are games left to play.
League winners, Barcelona have scored an amazing 144 goals and only conceded 8. Not only that, but they are 22 points ahead of second-place Sociedad. Atletico Madrid is in third position, Granadilla Tenerife is in fourth, and Real Madrid sits in fifth place (37 points behind the leaders). With 4 matches remaining, the Barça ladies have not lost a game in La Liga all season.
Their next league game is away to Valencia on April 16.
Barcelona faced Real Madrid once again. This time, in front of a record 91,533 audience at Camp Nou for the Champions League. It took over 10 minutes before Real Madrid had a touch inside the Barcelona end when a few minutes later, they equalised. However, Barcelona won 5-2 on the night (8-3 on aggregate) to reach the semi-finals. The first leg is due to be played on April 22 against Wolfsburg.
