The Rolling Stones kick off their European tour in Madrid with just one performance on June 1. After statements from the rock band, this will probably be their last European tour. The British rock band members landed at Adolfo Suárez airport in Madrid on Thursday evening.

The Rolling Stones are currently preparing for what will likely be their last tour of Europe. This week, frontman Mick Jagger wrote on Instagram that they had recently been in the Netherlands to rehearse. Between rehearsals, Mick Jagger was spotted in various places in the Netherlands relaxing as a tourist. He was captured on a bicycle in front of a Dutch windmill and later sailing in a sloop on the Amstel.

Maximum security when The Rolling Stones arrive in Madrid

Jagger’s Instagram account read: “Next stop: Madrid”. Indeed, Spanish media confirmed that The Stones’ private plane, bearing the distinctive logo, landed in Madrid on Thursday, May 26 at 6.30 pm. Band members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ron Wood are accompanied by their families in Spain. Security and escort by, among others, the Guardia Civil had been greatly increased at Madrid airport. Normally, this is something only organised for the Pope, the Spanish newspaper Heraldo.es reported.

Last time The Rolling Stones in Spain?

The arrival of the remaining members of The Rolling Stones is six days before what will probably be their last performance in Spain. After the death of drummer Charlie Watts in August 2021, there was speculation whether the band would continue at all. The announcement of their tour of Europe made it clear that the band isn’t done performing yet. However, Ron Wood mad a statement in Esquire. Consequently, many fans have in mind that this could be their last chance to see The Rolling Stones in Spain. During that interview he said, “the band is going to give all their energy, after all it´s the last tour”,

There are no official activities planned for the next few days. The tour manager said the band will be rehearsing but that it will not be announced when or where. Mick, Keith and Ron also take the time to see the Spanish capital and spend time with their fans in Spain.

Concert number 24 of The Rolling Stones in Spain

On Wednesday 1 June, a day before Charlie Watts would have turned 75, the first concert of their European tour ‘Sixty’ will take place. As mentioned, the Spanish capital will have the honor of kicking off possibly the last tour in the history of The Rolling Stones. The concert on June 1 will take place at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium, which can accommodate more than 45,000 people. It will be the 24th time that The Rolling Stones will perform in Spain, the last time being in Barcelona in 2017.

According to the Spanish news site Heraldo.es, there are still a few tickets available, even though the prices vary considerably. After their first concert in Madrid, The Rolling Stones will perform thirteen more times in Europe. The last concert of this tour will take place on July 31 in Stockholm.
