CANARY ISLANDS – The British company Jet2 has stated that there is a “strong and sustained demand” that has led them to extend the summer season until October. Furthermore, the airline plans new flights for next summer from the United Kingdom to Spain.
Jet2, through its tour operator Jet2holidays and its airline Jet2.com, has increased the number of routes and flights for the summer of 2023, compared to the first forecasts. The British company has stated that there is a “strong and sustained demand”, especially in the different holiday destinations of the Canary Islands.
Summer season extended to the month of October
The company has significant market shares regarding trips from the United Kingdom to locations with a sunny climate. Therefore, it has added more than 50 weekly flights for next year’s holidays to Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Tenerife, all of them Canarian territories, along with the Turkish destinations Izmir, Bodrum, Antalya and Dalaman. In addition, this movement will entail the lengthening of the Jet2 tourist season, by betting on an increase in places also in the month of October.
The strong demand for flights and vacation packages has caused both the airline and the tour operator to slightly increase their routes with respect to Spain, in addition to Portugal, Greece, Italy, Cyprus and Croatia. This series of additional flights will represent 45,000 more seats compared to the plan originally designed for 2023.
“We’ve added extra capacity at popular destinations in the Canary Islands and Turkey, as well as other sun-favourite Mediterranean destinations. As more families seek quality holidays, booking a mid-term holiday now allows them to save,” said Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2 and Jet2holidays.
These additional trips have been incorporated to nine British bases, thus leaving these aircraft from airports in Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, East Midlands, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle International and London Stansted.
Jet2 winter season 2022/2023
Jet2 has confirmed itself this year as a power in travel from the United Kingdom to the Canary Islands and wishes to maintain its position in the winter season: “While global traffic between the United Kingdom Kingdom and the Canary Islands have decreased by 6% (218,000 fewer passengers) compared to the same period in 2019, Jet2 has grown by 30%, reaching 1.4 million passengers until September. This gives us a market share of 38% , 10 points more than before the crisis”, they affirmed from the tourist company.
According to Cinco Días, Jet2 has scheduled 900,000 seats in winter 2022/2023, 15% above pre-pandemic levels. Tenerife South airport will be the one that will receive the most passenger traffic, with 380,000 seats offered in arrivals (18% more than in 2019). This is followed by Lanzarote (240,000 and 11% more), Gran Canaria (143,000 and 19% more more) and Fuerteventura (120,000 and 9% more).
