BENIDORM – The Valencia region ends September with an average hotel occupancy of almost 70% in most tourist destinations. However, Valencia leads the way with 71.5%.
According to data from the tourism hotel organisation Hosbec, Benidorm registered 68.4% occupancy in September; Castellón, 68.6%, and Costa Blanca as a whole 67%. This is good news for the sector so badly hit by the corona pandemic.
Moreover, the hotel sector is eagerly looking forward to 4 October. That is the day when Brits who have been fully vaccinated no longer need to provide a negative test result before leaving Spain and only have to take an antigen test on the second day after arriving in the UK.
Remarkable increase
In Benidorm, “the gradual increase of the British market is remarkable. As such, it continues to grow compared to recent records and reaches 19.1%. This means that the British are the second largest group of tourists after the group of tourists coming from Spain itself (69.1%)”, according to a statement from Hosbec published in the newspaper Las Provincias. There are currently 97 Hosbec affiliated hotels open in Benidorm. That is 85.8% of the total.
Pre-pandemic level approaching
The month of September 2021 will close with an average occupancy of 67%, a positive result that is starting to approach the “pre-pandemic” records, when 77.7% of the hotel occupancy was reached in September 2019. These positive numbers are mainly due to the national tourist contribution which in September accounted for 73.5% of the total number of tourists in the region.
