According to Google, one of the most used search engines worldwide, the number of international searches for travelling to Spain increased by 200% in May compared to the same month last year.

The tech giant collected the May 2021 data through its Destination Insights. In that month, it saw a 203% growth in international searches to travel to Spain compared to the same period in 2020.

The five most sought after destinations are Palma (Mallorca), Barcelona, ​​Madrid, Malaga and Ibiza. The source markets where Spain is attracting the most interest as a holiday destination are Germany and France. The United Kingdom, meanwhile, is in third place. After the top three come Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United States, Switzerland, Poland, Portugal, Ireland and Austria.

The statistics date from before Britain announced it would keep Spain as an orange destination – advises against travel. This means Britons must quarantine on return from Spain, have a PCR test taken before departure. Furthermore, they must also take a Covid-19 test on days 2 and 8 after return to Great Britain.

In the search for flights in Europe, Spain leads the ranking, followed by Italy and France. Google Insights also show Spaniards are especially interested in visiting countries such as Italy, France, Germany, Portugal and the United States.
