SPORT – Good news for football fans: As of October 1, the stadiums can be fully filled again in Spain. Public health agreed with all Spanish regional authorities on Wednesday morning. And as such, more spectators will again be allowed to major events.
The epidemiological situation in Spain becomes increasingly optimistic. And as such, the restrictive measures in Spain may be lifted bit by bit. Consequently, now that most of the Spanish population has been vaccinated, stadiums will soon be full again.
100% capacity in stadiums for La Liga matches
On Wednesday morning, the Ministry of Health and the autonomous regional authorities, therefore, agreed that the capacity for large events in the open air may return to ‘the old normal’. Furthermore, this measure also applies to the football clubs of the first and second divisions in Spain.
However, for indoor events, such as basketball matches of the Liga ACB, there is still a maximum capacity of 80%. The admission of more people to indoor and outdoor events will take effect on October 1. Moreover, this will apply throughout all of Spain.

Therefore, Spain’s 42 professional football clubs will be allowed to fill their stands with fans again from October 1. Firstly, will be the match between Athletic Club-Alavés on Friday, October 1. Then the game between Atlético Madrid and Barcelona on Saturday, October 2, will be one of the first major games without too many empty spots in the stands of the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
Some measures remain intact
Although the health situation currently allows these relaxations to be implemented, the mandatory wearing of mouth caps and the temporary eating ban will still remain in force. Currently, outdoor stadiums are allowed to admit 60% of the maximum spectator capacity. And for indoor events, this percentage is currently 40%.
