filming of The Crown

Once againthe cast of The Crown returns to Spain’s Costa del Sol. In the 3rd and 4th seasons of the British series on Netflix, recordings were made in various Spanish places. This week, the British cast will start filming in and around Marbella.

Sources close to the Emmy Award-winning blockbuster informed the Spanish news site, Diario Sur, that shooting will start from September 27 in the fashionable Puerto Banús and at the exclusive and very luxurious resort of La Zagaleta.

Changing of the guard in the fifth season of The Crown

Shooting picks up where season four of The Crown ended, starting in the 1990s. Elizabeth Debicki plays the adult Diana, taking over the role of Emma Corrin who played the younger version of Lady Di in Season 4. Actress Olivia Colman hands the baton to Imelda Staunton for the role of Queen Elizabeth. Prince Charles will now be played by Dominic West instead of the younger version played by Josh O’Connor.

Cast of The Crown also in previous seasons in Spain

It is not the first time that the series about the British royal family has been shot in Spain. In the third season of The Crown, the Torremolinos Palacio de Ferias was converted into a 1960s airport. The cast of the Netflix series also returned in the fourth season for shooting in Spain.

Although the British royals made an official visit to Australia, it turned out that the scenes were actually shot in Málaga, Cádiz, and Almería. One of the examples is the top floor of the AC Malaga Palacio hotel. It looks as if Charles and Diana are looking out over the Australian city of Brisbane during an official visit, but in reality, they are on the roof of the hotel.

In other scenes, Margaret Thatcher was seen at the Gran Hotel Miramar. Recordings were also made in the gardens of Concepción with the actors Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor where it looked as if the royals were driving through Adelaide in Australia in a car.

Fans of the series, however, will have to be patient. Netflix announced last weekend that the fifth season of The Crown will not be shown until November 2022. In this season, among other things, the marriage troubles of Prince Charles and Princess Diana are discussed.
