Earthquake with magnitude over 4 in Benalmádena on the Costa del Sol

BENALMáDENA – An earthquake measuring magnitude 4.1 on the Richter scale had the city of Benalmádena (Málaga province) as its epicentre on Sunday evening and has been felt in several parts of Malaga. 

Residents of Málaga city, Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Las Lagunas de Mijas were also able to feel the quake. According to the National Geographic Institute (IGN), the intensity III quake occurred on Sunday evening at 8.47 pm.

The earthquake with a magnitude of over 4 was recorded at a depth of 60 kilometres, so despite its relatively high intensity, there is no evidence of any damage.

Torremolinos earthquake 

Three earthquakes have been recorded in the province of Málaga in the past three days. The first took place last Friday at 3.00 am. This time with an epicentre just off the coast of Torremolinos. This earthquake was of less intensity and had a magnitude of 2.1 on the Richter scale. However, as it occurred at a depth of 90 kilometres, it was barely perceptible to the population. 

Third quake of weekend in Mijas 

Finally, the third quake was recorded by IGN on also Sunday evening at 9.30 pm in Mijas and measured 2.7 on the Richter Scale. The epicentre was at a depth of 52 kilometers.
