December supermarket opening hours and offers in Spain

Most supermarkets nowadays are encouraging online shopping for home delivery or kerbside collection/in-store pickup. However, if your want to visit a physical store during the month of December, InSpain.News have put together a guide as to the main supermarket opening hours.

The dates, days, and hours of opening for December are listed below. Please note, however, that each local region may differ slightly.

The first bank holidays for December in Spain are on Tuesday 6 (Día de la Constitución) and Thursday 8 (Día de la Inmaculada Concepción).

Mercadona

Mercadona will remain closed on Sundays. It will also close on December 6, 8, and 26. Opening hours will vary slightly depending on the store but will usually be 9.00 am opening and 9.30 pm closing. On December 24 and 31, expect reduced opening hours.

Lidl

Most Lidl supermarkets will open on Sundays throughout December. However, closing times will differ, and can range anywhere between 3.00 pm and 10.00 pm. Therefore, you are advised to check in-store at your local supermarket.

Aldi

Aldi will adjust the hours during the festive period, adapting to the holidays of each town, and the regulations established in each municipality regarding opening on Sundays and holidays.

Most Aldi stores will remain open on December 6 and 8. However, All Aldi stores will close on December 25, and January 1 and 6. The majority of Aldi supermarkets will remain open on Sundays throughout December.

Throughout the country, opening hours vary between 8.00 am and 10.00 am. Closing times also vary, especially for those that open on Sundays.

Dia

Día supermarkets, are generally open Monday to Saturday from 9.00 am to 9.30 pm. However, to be 100% sure, they advise to check the hours for your nearest store. Dia does not open on a Sunday.

Cogesa Expats

Carrefour

Usual opening hours for most Carrefour supermarkets are between 9/9.30 am until 10.00 pm. In December, the majority will also open on Sundays. Most stores will close on December 6 and will have reduced opening hours on December 24 and 31. Opening times for Carrefour Express outlets will vary.

Carrefour store opening hours vary because they depend on what has been specified in each Autonomous Community by its trade regulations. To find out the Sunday and holiday opening hours of a Carrefour store, you are advised you to consult your desired store in the Carrefour store search engine.

Alcampo

Normal opening hours in most Alcampo supermarket stores are 9.00 am until 10.00 pm. Sunday opening will vary depending on the establishment, but many will maintain the same opening hours as above. However, there will be reduced opening hours on December 24, and 31, with most stores closing at 8.00 pm.

Lidl are organising a prize draw throughout the month of December until Christmas Eve. Simply register for the Lidl Plus mobile app (through App Store or Google Store)
