MADRID – The government has always confirmed the Covid-19 vaccine is for everyone residing in Spain regardless of whether they have state medical care or not.
However there still seems to be some confusion as to how to gain access and register for the vaccination. Especially if you are not already part of the public health system. Many people either have private medical insurance, or perhaps have just never registered.
As coronavirus is considered a global pandemic, it is a matter of public health, regardless of nationality or whether you have registered. At the moment, vaccines are only being conducted by the health authorities. And as such it is currently unavailable via private medical insurance. However, the Spanish authorities are in contact with these companies to organise a co-ordinated effort for their clients to be vaccinated.
State medical care
If you are already registered for state medical care, you will be contacted when it is your turn to be vaccinated. In the meantime, it is important to ensure your health centre has the correct contact information for you.
If you are not currently registered, each region has different information that you will require to follow. The official information for each area is listed below. However, as the vaccine strategy continues to change, please check for up to date information.

Valencia
In this region, you must visit your local state health centre to register. You will then be provided with a provisional health card which will cover the vaccination and any other requirements.
Other regions
For any other areas not listed, it is advised for you to contact your local health centre with regard to temporary state medical care or your private medical insurance company if you have one.
