Conde Nast Traveler released its ‘Best Places to Go’ in 2022 list this week. Among the amazing destinations are Spain’s Balearic Islands.
The Balearic Islands – Ibiza, Menorca, Mallorca, Formentera and minor islands – has long been a sought-after destination for both the jet set and the package holidaymakers. With incredible landscapes from clear water bays to rugged mountains, a laidback lifestyle and renowned party scene, there’s a host of reasons to visit.

Conde Nast Traveler magazine (US) organised their Best Places to Go’ destinations on some of their favourite reasons to travel. They looked at “exhilarating food and drink scenes and historic sites to explore, to new places to soak in the great outdoors.”

One of the reasons, Conde Nast Traveler chose the Balearics was the new focus on art. Earlier this year, Hauser & Wirth opened their latest gallery on the island of Menorca. In the historic Illa del Rei in Menorca’s Mahón harbour, the gallery is housed in the 18th century naval hospital.
Menorca does not want to be next Ibiza
New hotels focus on art
Conde Nast Traveler also mentioned new hospitality offerings on the islands.
“In Mallorca, Can Ferrereta, a boutique hotel housed in a restored 17th-century building, features a Maison Assouline-curated library and works by local and Spanish artists—Joan Miró, Riera i Aragó, Bárbara Vidal—in all its 32 rooms and communal spaces.
On relaxed Formentera, the recently opened Casa Pacha has stylish retro interiors by Patricia Galden Studio and statement decorative objects from local artisans.
Meanwhile on the hard-partying isle, the Six Senses Ibiza will feature farm-to-table dining, music, art, wellness, and sustainable fashion, as the Balearics’ first BREEAM-certified resort.”
Balearics looking to sustainable and high-quality tourism
The Balearic Islands’ Minister for Tourism, Iago Negueruela said earlier this year, they want to focus mainly on more sustainable and high-quality tourism. ‘I think we need to focus on quality rather than volume, because we have seen that relying too much on mass tourism also carries risks,’ he acknowledged.
