Strike action at Spanish airports has been called for by Comisiones Obreras during the Christmas holiday period. However, if no agreement is reached, it could also stretch into the first quarter of 2023.
On Monday, the CCOO reported it would register a call for strikes in Aena with the Ministry of Labour. This is due to the non-payment of productivity pay.
Productivity pay
According to the CCOO union, productivity pay had been paid for years prior to the pandemic. However, since then, it has not been reinstated. Despite negotiations over several months, an agreement has still not been reached.

Spanish airports strike action
Last month, it was indicated that there could be the possibility of strike action. If no solution has been reached, the planned strike dates will go ahead as follows;
- December 22, 23, 30 and 31 (2022)
- January 6 and 8 (2023)
According to CCOO, air traffic has now recovered and has reached levels from 2019. Furthermore, in some airports it has even exceeded them. Consequently, the distribution of dividends to private shareholders “is also authorised”. Therefore, the workers of the Aena group demand, “the recovery of what corresponds to us” in the form of productivity pay as before.
