The curfew in Catalonia

BARCELONA – The curfew in Catalonia will be extended by a week (until July 30) in the municipalities most affected by the consequences of COVID-19. As of Friday 23 July, 165 Catalan municipalities will be subject to this restriction.

On Tuesday, the government of the Generalitat of Catalonia approved the measure. A spokesman for the regional government explained that Roses, Igualada, Lleida and Salt will be added to the list of places with curfews between 01:00 and 06:00. Furthermore, as can be seen on the map, coastal municipalities in particular have been affected by the measure.

On Wednesday, the government will petition the Catalan Supreme Court TSJC. “The goal is to prevent the collapse of our hospital and health system. Therefore, the government has agreed to extend night-time confinement for a week in those municipalities most affected by the effects of Covid-19,” the spokesperson said.

Night mobility is limited between 1am and 6am and is valid for seven days, renewable. The measure will affect more than 6 million Catalans living in the 165 municipalities of more than 5,000 inhabitants affected by this measure (see list at the bottom of the article). Most of these places have a cumulative incidence equal to or greater than 400 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. However, there are also others who do not have these indicators, neither in incidence nor in population, but who are close and therefore also have a curfew.

The other restrictive measures to contain infections will also be extended by seven days, such as limiting gatherings of more than 10 people, closing all activities at 00.30am, the ban on eating and drinking outside and the capacity limitation in cultural institutions. events and places of worship.
