ALICANTE – In May this year, La Policia Nacional launched a video with details of the top 10 most wanted International criminals thought to be living in Spain. Despite a elaborate disguise, police have managed to capture the third fugitive from this video.
However, that leaves seven still on the run. This includes people trafficker, Viviana Andrea Vallejo Guitierrez as reported in a previous article.
Diego Dario González Ghersi – arrested
Ghersi wanted for sexual abuse of his daughter (a minor) was captured in the San Juan area of Alicante. The information provided in the official police video advised there was a high chance he could re-offend. He was born in Buenos Aires in 1981, and is 1.7 metres tall with white skin and dark eyes. He was noted as having tattoos on his fingers, arms and back and a piercing on his left eyebrow.
However, when he was captured yesterday at around 2.00 pm, he did not look anything like the above description, or the image portrayed in the video. He had long blonde hair and a beard. The colour of his eyes were altered by the use of coloured contact lenses. According to the police report, he also put templates in his shoes to make him appear taller than he was. Furthermore, he had new tattoos made to cover the old identifiable ones.
Police had suspected for some time that he was living somewhere in the Alicante area, however it took several months before they could locate him. Police were able to confirm he had changed address numerous times, and did many unskilled casual jobs to survive without attracting attention to himself.
Sexual abuse of his minor daughter
Ghersi had been on the run from Spanish justice since February 2021. He had been sentenced to prison for sexual abuse dating back to 2008. The abuse was directed at his (then) 5-year-old daughter.
The allegations came about, when the girl´s mother was aware her daughter had become sad, and was reluctant to spend weekends with her father. Allegedly, when at his home, he played movies with pornographic content for her. The child had stated that he had touched her private parts, above and below her clothes, and sometimes when she was naked. Furthermore, Ghersi had told his daughter to keep everything a secret and not to tell anyone.
