COSTA DEL SOL – A British female drove the wrong way down a motorway at km174 of the N340 between Puerto Banus and Marbella and hit a motorcycle food delivery driver head on.At Around 8.30pm on Saturday evening, the 35-year-old British female fled the scene after both vehicles burst into flames. A 28-year-old Columbian man was thrown from his motorbike and died on the road after unsuccessful attempts to revive him.

Reports say, despite her vehicle being in flames, she drove away from the accident, still in the wrong direction. However, just a few hundred metres further on, she abandoned the wrecked Mercedes rental car and ran to hide.

Hid in some bushes

Apparently, she hid in some bushes and attempted to call a taxi to pick her up. However, local police caught up with her. They arrested her on suspicion of negligent manslaughter, abandoning the scene of an accident, and various other road safety offences. However, police have yet to make any official comment about the incident. But are expected to do so once the woman has appeared in court.

The woman who has not yet been named, is said to live in the area. According to various reports, she showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol as she was seemingly unable to maintain her balance when asked to take a breathalyser test.  The female was later taken to hospital for tests to be carried out. The results of the drug and alcohol tests have not yet been announced.

According to UK newspaper, The Daily Mail, the moped rider worked for Spanish start-up Glovo. Colleague Alex Gonzalez said: ‘We’re all devastated by what’s happened. I hope justice is done.’ Antonio Garcia added: ‘A poor innocent man who was going about his daily life has died because of the actions of a reckless person.’

Investigations by the Guardia Civil’s traffic division are continuing.
