LONDON – Bodegas HABLA, a winery in Extremadura, had amazing results at the London Wine Show 2021, winning an armful of awards for their wines.
Bodegas HABLA is an avant-garde winery in Trujillo, Extremadura. One of the most advanced in Spain, the winery is in a contemporary building designed to work with the winery’s functionality.
Best in Show
Following the tradition of great wines from Extremadura, Bodegas Habla won Best in Show for Spain and Best Winery for each of the wines’ bodegas.
They were alongside several Gold Awards for individual wines:

- Habla Nº21; Vintage: 2016; Category: Still Wines (Vintage / Non-Vintage); Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec / Auxerrois / Cot (92 points)
Habla red wines come in distinctive black bottles, an elegant centrepiece for the table as well as tasting delicious.
The Judging
Sid Patel, CEO of event organiser Beverage Trade Network, says, “A wine is more than just a drink, it is a whole experience. That is why the London Wine Competition is designed for Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers and experienced buyers to evaluate wines the way wine drinkers do. Yes, they analyse the quality of the wines thoroughly; they are then asked to judge and award marks based on the value and packaging of the wine.”
Wines were judged on the basis of three primary criteria – quality, value and packaging – and then scored on a 100-point scale. Wines that scored 90+ points received Gold medals, those that scored 76 to 89 points received Silver medals, whilst Bronze medals went to spirits that score between 65 & 75.
