Benidorm, Spain’s popular party destination, is anticipating a surge of stag and hen parties in 2024. Early booking data suggests that the resort could accommodate up to one in eight trips next year.

This influx of pre-wedding celebrations is expected to bring an economic boost of approximately €40 million to local businesses. The Costa Blanca hotspot has witnessed a significant rise in stag and hen bookings in recent years, with one prominent UK firm reporting a staggering 700% increase since 2018.

Now, Matt Mavir, Managing Director of Last Night of Freedom, reveals that enquiries for 2024 are already surpassing expectations, with approximately one out of every eight stag or hen weekends planning to take place in Benidorm next year. “Benidorm is already incredibly popular, but next year the resort looks set to reach the next level,” says Matt Mavir. “There’s nowhere else in mainland Europe that is coming close to Benidorm at the moment. We can only describe it as a stag and hen tsunami. Moreover, the sector alone is now worth somewhere between €30-40 million a year to Benidorm.”

“Holy trinity” of stag and hen party locations

According to Matt, who has organised over 45,000 stag and hen trips, Benidorm has surpassed other popular destinations such as Prague and Dublin to become part of the “holy trinity” of stag and hen party locations, alongside Liverpool and Newcastle. Together, these three destinations account for more than half of all trips booked for 2024 thus far.

While Liverpool has long been a favourite choice, Benidorm has experienced an explosion in bookings in recent years. Since 2018, trips to the sun-soaked Spanish resort have skyrocketed by a staggering 700%. Furthermore, the number of trips is projected to double again in 2024. Groups seek respite from the cost-of-living crisis enticed by the resort’s affordable prices.

Despite this, it was Newcastle that was expected to host the highest number of stag and hen parties last weekend (May 19-21). Industry estimates indicated that the North-East city was expected to welcome over 320 groups during those days. However, the hundreds of parties that visited Benidorm would nevertheless have generated a substantial sum for local businesses.

Matt Mavir adds, “That’s a staggering amount of money for any city, which shows just how important the sector is for Benidorm. The resort has done a wonderful job of embracing the sector, and it is now reaping the rewards.”

With the prospect of a “stag and hen tsunami” on the horizon, Benidorm is gearing up to cater to the demands of party-seeking visitors and capitalise on the substantial economic benefits that accompany their presence.
