Atlético Madrid continued their unbeaten run and were last night held to a 2-2 draw at home by Celta Vigo.  Despite Suarez scoring twice, it was not enough to see victory for the home side.  What looked to be a potential runaway victory in La Liga victory, is now back in question.

Celta Vigo started the game strong with Santi Mina scoring for the away team.  The visitors seemed to dominate play in the first half.  This left Atlético struggling to keep possession of the ball.  However, Suarez found the net and managed to equalise in injury time.

During half time, Diego Simeone´s men had some rethinking to do.  Simone switched tactics in the second half and brought 24-year-old, Torreira on for Felipe.  This meant a more attacking side with 4 at the back defending and Torreira strong in mid-field.

This seemed to work almost immediately as Suarez scored his second goal of the match putting Atlético ahead.  Atlético continued to gain control of the game and looked set to bag the 3 points.  However, Celta equalised in the final minute.

Atlético now have their work cut out for them to maintain their position at the top of La Liga.  They remain 8 points ahead of their rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid. Their next game is on Saturday away to 8th place Granada.

Prior to yesterday´s game, two more Atlético players tested positive for Covid-19.  “Hector Herrera and Thomas Lemar underwent antigen tests on Monday morning ahead of our fixture against Celta, in accordance with the LaLiga protocol. Both players tested positive for COVID-19. They later underwent PCR tests, which confirmed the results,” Atlético Madrid said in a statement.  Both players are isolating at home. This comes after the announcement last week that Joao Felix and Moussa Dembele had also contracted the virus.
