Another warm weekend ahead in Spain

warm weekend

MADRID – Prepare yourself for a warm weekend on the terrace, beach or picnic in the park. Summer weather is expected again this weekend. It remains dry practically everywhere with spring-like temperatures and in some areas even temperatures that are normal for summer.

Over the next three days, thermometers will exceed 25 degrees in zones of the southern half of the peninsula and 20 degrees in the northern half. The mercury only indicates lower values in the northern third. That predicts the Spanish meteorological agency Aemet. It will only rain moderately in Galicia, along the Cantabrian coast, the north and west of Castilla y León and in the Pyrenees. This is due to a front that moved into Spain from the northwest on Thursday.

31 degrees in Murcia

Temperatures will fall particularly in the Bay of Biscay and much of the interior of the peninsula. However, this is in contrast to the Mediterranean and nearby areas. In Murcia, the mercury could even rise to 31 degrees on Friday. On Saturday there is a slight drop, but on Sunday it can get even warmer in this region. Valencia will also reach 30 degrees on both Friday and Sunday with a small dip to 22 degrees on Saturday.

Saturday

On Saturday, the chance of rain is higher again in Galicia and in western Asturias later in the day. However, temperatures will generally rise here as well. In the Mediterranean, unlike Friday, Saturday will be cooler with even some light frost in the mountain areas and on the northern plateau.

However, during the central hours of the day, the maximum temperature will exceed 20 degrees in much of the east and south of the peninsula and up to 30 degrees in Andalucia’s Guadalquivir valley. Seville, Granada and Córdoba reach 29 degrees and Huelva, Málaga, Jaén, Ciudad Real, Albacete, Badajoz and Santa Cruz de Tenerife reach 25 or more.

Sunday

From Sunday, the position of the high pressure changes and that promotes the arrival of cooler westerly and northwesterly winds. That means temperatures will drop in practically the entire country. Only in the Mediterranean area will warm winds continue to affect temperatures. On that day, 30 degrees could be exceeded in many places along the coast. In addition to Valencia and Murcia, thermometers will indicate values above 25 degrees in the following provincial capitals:

  • Alicante
  • Castellón
  • Almería
  • Málaga
  • Granada
  • Córdoba
  • Seville
  • Huelva
  • Santa Cruz de Tenerife
  • Melilla

It will be cooler in the northwestern quadrant of the country, such as in Lugo and Segovia, where it will not exceed 15 degrees. Although the moderate rainfall that day will be limited to the far north. All in all, it is expected to be a warm weekend for much of the country.

Next week

Warm weather is expected for after the weekend with higher temperatures than normal for this time of year. Furthermore, there will be practically no rain. That, therefore offers hope for Semana Santa, which won’t be “wet and cool” like last year. On the contrary, it is expected to start with temperatures between 3 and 6 degrees above normal. This will be the case for inland Catalonia, the region of Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Murcia and Andalucia. The weather on these dates is expected to be changeable, but overall, “looking good”.
