John Holland-Kaye, CEO of London-Heathrow Airport is convinced that the chaos that is unleashing in airports could drag on for another 18 months. This English aerodrome – that led European traffic before the pandemic broke out with 80.9 million passengers in 2019 – faces large-scale cancellations and delays too, just like other European airports
“I think that the aviation sector will take 12 to 18 months to fully recover capacity. Therefore, we will have to manage supply and demand very carefully.” Travelmole collected the prediction of the CEO from his speech at the conference Financial Times Global Boardroom.
Long queues and discontent
This suggests that the long queues and discontent of passengers may continue beyond 2021. Passengers have reported many problems with delays and missed flights. Mostly at airports in Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Spain.
Increase in demand
The increase in travel demand is one of the main problems. All the above mentioned countries say this is the cause of problems with the recruitment of staff. That is why, Holland-Kaye, urges the British authorities to further simplify background check rules, were appropriate. This could speed up the hiring of new staff.
