Spain’s Salvamento Marítimo (Maritime Rescue) has rescued 83 migrants in three boats from the sea in Andalucia and off the Canary Islands. The boat with the most people on board, 61 in total, was intercepted near Fuerteventura.
There, the migrants were transferred by Salvamento to the quay in Puerto del Rosario. Subsequently, they were assisted by Canary Islands emergency service personnel and the Red Cross. However, four of them had to be transferred to medical centres for various ailments.
Andalucia
In Andalucia, early Monday morning in the waters of San José (Almería) and Marbella (Málaga), Salvamento Marítimo rescued two small boats. Furthermore, in total there were 22 North African refugees on board, including three minors. Moreover, they are in good health and have been transferred to the ports of Almería and the city of Málaga.
The boat near Almeria was located at 3.30 am. It was 15 miles southeast of San José with 15 people on board, all of them adults. The Salvamar Spica took them to the port of the capital Almeria, where they arrived in good health, sources confirmed to Spanish newspaper Europa Press.
The other boat was found in the province of Málaga, seven miles south of the city of Marbella. This time, there were seven people on board, three men, one woman and three minors. They too were all in good health and were therefore taken to the port of the city of Málaga.
